Four people were killed when an airplane whose pilot delayed landing at a Sierra airport because of a low cloud cover crashed 10 miles away. Tuolumne County sheriff’s deputies said the wreckage was located two miles south of Jamestown. Two of the victims were identified as the pilot, Walter East, and his wife, Ramona, of Jamestown. The identities of the remaining victims, two women, were withheld. The plane was reported missing after the pilots of two other planes that had been traveling with it landed at Columbia Airport after a flight from Sacramento.
