12 NCAA Teams Positive They Are Clean

Twelve of the 32 first-round winners in the NCAA basketball tournament who have received results of their drug tests say that none of their players tested positive.

Representatives from DePaul, Kansas, Notre Dame, Alabama, Nevada Las Vegas, Wyoming, Indiana, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgetown, Duke and North Carolina reported their test results. The tests were taken after last weekend’s opening-round games.

Wyoming Coach Jim Brandenburg, however, questioned the testing program, calling it an invasion of privacy.

“It’s aggravating for the players to have to go through it after a game, but the players are willing to go through with it,” Brandenburg said. “We’ve got a situation where we need to do something, we need to have a deterrent.”

The procedure of testing immediately after games also drew criticism from some players and coaches. Because they were dehydrated from the games, many players had problems providing urine samples. Some waited for hours.

“I’m for drug testing, but that was ridiculous,” Kansas Coach Larry Brown said. “I know it’s good and I know it’s important but there has to be a better way.”
