Rolling Hills : Sewer Feasibility Study
The City Council has given preliminary approval to hiring ASL Consulting Engineers of Pasadena to study the feasibility of building a sewer system in the city. The council is expected to award the $28,700 contract at its April 13 meeting.
The study, to be completed by August, also will estimate the cost of the system.
Most of the 660 residences in Rolling Hills use septic tanks. The council called for the sewer feasibility study so residents can decide whether to change systems, City Manager Terrence Belanger said.
Although ASL was not the low bidder, it was selected over six other engineering firms because of its familiarity with the city’s terrain and geology. ASL recently designed a sewer system for an area of Rolling Hills Estates next to Rolling Hills and has been involved with other sewer projects in the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
The council also approved spending about $10,000 to map the city using aerial photography. Aerial maps are essential to start the sewer feasibility study, Belanger said, and will be “invaluable” in administrative work such as documenting site improvements and evaluating grading applications.
The total estimated cost is $20,000, and the Rolling Hills Community Assn. has agreed to pay the other half, Belanger said.
