Tustin : Police Believe Man in Burned Car Was Suicide

Share

Police said Friday that they now believe the man whose body was found inside a burning stolen car on Thursday committed suicide, but they still have not identified the victim.

Police consider the death a suicide based on the results of an autopsy conducted Friday “and evidence recovered from the scene,” according to a department spokesman. Authorities did not disclose details of the autopsy, evidence or cause of death.

The charred remains of the unidentified man were pulled from the car in Tustin Thursday morning after firefighters extinguished flames that engulfed the car. The white 1982 Datsun 200-SX was discovered on fire on the shoulder of El Camino Real about a half-mile east of Jamboree Road, Police Lt. Houston Williams said.

A license plate check showed that the car had been reported stolen in Santa Ana at about 7 a.m. Thursday, Williams said.
