Unfortunately, Too Many Others Share Mr. Campanis’ View

Al Campanis’ recent statements regarding the lack of black managers in major league baseball erase any doubts about the actual reason for this absence, at least for the Dodgers. Clearly, his prejudicial attitudes bias his judgment, propagating an environment in which the ascension to management by a black is impossible, regardless of that individual’s capabilities.

As black Americans, we must not be angered by such attitudes and statements, but should expose them and thereby enlighten our children of the tremendous barriers that must be overcome before the fruits of full participation in our society can be shared equitably by all Americans. For unfortunately, too many others share Mr. Campanis’ view.
