U2’s “The Joshua Tree” still hasn’t knocked the Beastie Boys’ “Licensed to Ill” out of the No. 1 position on the Billboard magazine pop album chart. But in its third week on the chart, the U2 LP sprouted up one notch to No. 2, displacing Bon Jovi’s “Slippery When Wet.” The Beasties’ album, which just went triple platinum (3 million copies sold), is No. 1 for the seventh week. In a few weeks, both the Beasties and U2 will have competition from hot new albums by Bryan Adams and Prince. Adams’ “Into the Fire” debuted at No. 36 and Prince’s two-record set, “Sign o’ the Times,” came on the chart at No. 40. The new No. 1 single is “I Knew You Were Waiting (for Me),” by Aretha Franklin and George Michael. Jody Watley’s single, “Looking for a New Love” jumped from No. 12 to No. 6. The Bangles should have another Top 10 single next week with “Walking Down Your Street,” up three notches to No. 11. Bryan Adams’ fast-rising single, “Heat of the Night” (No. 21), is a shoo-in for the Top 10.
