WEBBED BLISS

Share

One of the comics’ most eligible bachelors will forsake freedom for commitment when Marvel’s Amazing Spider-Man (a.k.a. news photog/scientist Peter Parker) and fiancee/model Mary Jane Watson tie the knot in issue No. 21--out, of course, in June.

Watson will accept Parker’s proposal in issue No. 292 (on sale in mid-May). The marriage, a first for each, will take place on the steps of New York’s City Hall. Designer Willi Smith of Williwear fame, who created Caroline Kennedy’s wedding dress last year, did the same for Spider-Man’s blushing bride. A honeymoon at “an exclusive villa in the South of France” will follow the ceremony, according to Marvel Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter.

For the wedding gown, Smith chose “white lace (‘abstract spider webs’), very tight and very revealing, with turtle neck and an organza fish tail.” Smith will be rewarded with a cameo appearance in the wedding issue, as himself.

Editor Shooter insisted that the love pair, who met in 1966, do not “have” to get married and are finished with all previous relationships.
