Community College Roundup : Kirkpatrick Leads Rancho Santiago, 6-5

Dave Kirkpatrick’s double in the 10th inning that scored Troy Barnhart gave Rancho Santiago College a 6-5 victory over Moorpark in the first round of the Ventura Baseball Tournament at Moorpark.

The Dons (21-5) trailed 5-4 in the ninth inning, but Chris Chase’s two out double scored Frank Appice, who had singled, and tied the game at 5-5.

Winning pitcher Brian Raum (5-3) pitched nine innings in relief, allowing two runs and five hits.

In women’s softball:

Rancho Santiago 2, College of the Sequoias 0--Winning pitcher Joyce Lyman (16-3) allowed just three hits and struck out five to lead the Dons (23-7) into the final of the College of the Sequoias Tournament. Christy Kalehuawehe was 1 for 2 with a sacrifice and scored a run.
