Southern Air military cargo flight schedules resumed, ending a four-day suspension of the charter carrier after the deaths of five crew members in the April 8 crash of an L-100 Hercules cargo aircraft at Travis Air Force Base. A spokesman for the airline said cargo flights were resumed after the Military Air Command examined maintenance, personnel and training records and operations procedures. The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board are still investigating the crash during what was described as a routine training flight, and a Pentagon statement said the Military Air Command “will continue to monitor the progress of these investigations.” Southern Air has been linked in recent months to U.S. arms shipments to Iran and efforts to supply rebels in Nicaragua.
