The National Hispanic Media Coalition announced Monday that it will picket KCBS-TV Channel 2 on Wednesday in a bid to pressure station management for a discussion concerning the coalition’s agenda to increase Latino employment at the station. Since filing a federal discrimination complaint against KCBS in December, the coalition has sought to meet with KCBS general manager Tom Van Amburg to discuss concrete goals and a timetable for Latino employment at the station. Defending the station’s hiring practices, a KCBS spokeswoman said, “We meet or exceed the guidelines (for minority hiring) of any internal or external governing body.”
