Senate Democratic leader Robert C. Byrd, seeking White House cooperation to develop a budget compromise, warned today against “garage sales” of government assets called for in President Reagan’s spending plan.

“Congress is not willing to rely on garage sales and selling of government assets to fill the revenue gap,” Byrd told reporters before the Senate convened to discuss the $1-trillion fiscal 1988 spending plan drafted by its own Budget Committee. Reagan says the deficit should be reduced by cutting domestic spending, raising fees and selling government assets.
