Basketball Coach Rick Pitino of Providence, last week rumored to be the New York Knicks’ top choice for coaching the National Basketball Assn. team, said he plans to be back coaching the Friars, who reached the NCAA Final Four this season.
“I’ve always intended to come back next year,” Pitino said during a news conference a half-hour after the NBA’s Phoenix Suns had promoted assistant coach John Wetzel to the top coaching spot.
As for the Knicks and his future?
“My intentions right now are to sign a new contract with Providence College. Is that 100%? No, it’s not,” the native New Yorker said.
