The Region : Bruce Young Hospitalized

Share

Facing a subpoena to appear before a federal grand jury, former Assemblyman Bruce E. Young was hospitalized because of chest pains and has been undergoing tests at a Northern California hospital. Young’s physical complaints came on the eve of his scheduled testimony in Los Angeles before the grand jury, which is continuing its probe into political corruption of elected officials by one-time fireworks manufacturer W. Patrick Moriarty. Young’s attorney, George Walker, said his client was admitted to Oakland Hospital after suffering a mild heart attack that will hospitalize him for at least two to three weeks. Last month, Young, 40, a Norwalk Democrat, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for concealing outside earnings he received from Moriarty while serving in the Legislature and for laundering campaign funds to other lawmakers.
