Walnut : Storm Drain Project OKd

In an effort to avoid future disruption of traffic on Temple Avenue, the City Council has voted to spend $142,000 for a storm drain extension that will be part of a county flood control project.

The city is building its own $1.2-million flood control project on Temple east of Grand Avenue, causing major traffic problems in the Mt. San Antonio College area. The city decided to go ahead with work on the county project because the county plans to extend Grand from Valley Boulevard south to the Pomona Freeway. That plan also involves digging up Temple.

Rather than face a second disruption, the council voted to spend city money on the county project and hope that the county will repay the money, said Tony Ramos, assistant to the city manager.
