With a field of 17 contenders led by the favored Demons Begone, the Kentucky Derby coverage on ABC will be off and running today at 1:30 p.m. (7)(3)(10)(42).

The 113th Run for the Roses at Churchill Downs will be reported by Jim McKay, Jack Whitaker, Al Michaels, Dave Johnson, Lynn Swann and Charlsie Cantey, with post time scheduled at 2:38 p.m.

Pre-race reports can be seen on today’s edition of “Wide World of Sports,” which also will have the Hector Camacho-Howard Davis super lightweight bout and the World Cup weightlifting championship. “Wide World” begins at noon (7)(3)(10)(42).

Meanwhile, ESPN will carry the pre-Kentucky Derby races starting at 11:30 a.m.

In the race for pro basketball’s championship, there are three NBA playoff games on CBS this weekend. The Houston Rockets and Seattle SuperSonics play Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series today at 12:30 p.m., with Sunday’s double-header (teams were not set at press time) starting at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. (2)(8).

On the baseball field, the Dodgers will be in St. Louis to take on the Cardinals today at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. (11). In a home game at Anaheim Stadium, the Angels will host the Boston Red Sox tonight at 7 on Channel 5.

Earlier today, NBC will televise the Montreal Expos-New York Mets game at 10:15 a.m. (4)(36).

Gymnastics makes one of its infrequent TV appearances as CBS covers the NCAA men’s and women’s championships today at 10:30 a.m. (2)(8).
