Jack Nicklaus and his son, Jack Nicklaus Jr., have agreed to play as a team in the $500,000 Fred Meyer Challenge golf tournament this August in Portland.

Bob Smith, a spokesman for the tournament, said tournament organizers have received word that Nicklaus would play. They announced earlier that Nicklaus and his son had made a verbal agreement to be on hand Aug. 17-18 at the Portland Golf Club for the 36-hole, best-ball tournament.

Nicklaus will be honored for his victories in 1962, 1964 and 1965 in the old Portland Open, Smith said.
