A 26-year-old woman was killed Sunday afternoon in a traffic accident on California 78 west of Mission Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Terry Wiggington of Trona, a community near Death Valley, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:40 p.m. crash, CHP spokeswoman Leona Wilhelm said.
Wilhelm said the accident occurred when the eastbound pickup truck Wiggington was riding in was forced off the highway by another car that was changing lanes on the freeway. The pickup then struck an unoccupied car parked on the shoulder.
The truck’s driver, Tommy Felkins, 24, of Escondido, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Palomar Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
