Fire Damages Register Plant

Share

A 4 a.m. fire in a storage area at the Orange County Register in Santa Ana shut down the newspaper’s phone system and some of its computer operations for several hours. Reporters and editors were moved to the newsroom of the Register’s sister paper, the Anaheim Bulletin, where the afternoon editions of both papers were typeset. The papers were printed by Register presses, which weren’t damaged. The fire at 625 N. Grand Ave. was confined to the storage room, where at least 30 rolls of newsprint were destroyed. The heat also damaged computer cables.
