McKELLEN’S BALANCE

Share

In contrast to Maria Martinez’s incorrect assumption that everyone in Ian McKellen’s audience at the Westwood Playhouse was thoroughly familiar with Shakespeare (Calendar Letters, May 3), I found it delightful that McKellen struck a fine balance between over-assumption and over-explanation.

Those less familiar with Shakespeare’s works were entertained and enlightened, while the more knowledgeable segment could not be bored except by their own inclination.
