Federal agents said Walter Berry of the San Antonio Spurs may have unwittingly transported money for a suspected heroin dealer while he was at St. John’s, Newsday reported.

The Long Island newspaper quoted law enforcement officials as saying that Berry may have been “duped” into carrying money from one city to another at least once while playing for St. John’s.

Newsday reported that Berry, guard Dwayne Washington of the New Jersey Nets and Mark Breland, World Boxing Assn. welterweight champion, have been subpoenaed to appear before a federal grand jury in connection with a probe of James Jackson, an alleged heroin dealer from the Bronx. Investigators said none of the three is suspected of being involved with drugs.
