Local News in Brief : Texas Drifter Sought in Probe of Strangulation
Los Angeles police are seeking a drifter from Texas for questioning in the April strangulation murder of a North Hollywood man, a police spokesman said Monday.
The suspect, David A. Phillips, who is believed to be between 27 and 33 years old, was the last person to be seen with Charles Nover, 42, before Nover was found dead April 22 in the bathroom of his home, Detective Howard Landgren said.
Nover may have been dead as long as three days before he was discovered at his 11664 Chandler Blvd. apartment by a neighbor, Landgren said.
Phillips and Nover met at a Hollywood bar where Nover worked as a bartender, the detective said. Nover’s friends told police that Phillips, a transient from the Dallas area, stayed with Nover for about a week, he said.
Investigators recovered Nover’s car, which they believe was stolen by his killer, in a Hollywood parking lot on April 24.
