The Burbank City Council on Tuesday accepted a $2.2-million bid to open three blocks of the Golden Mall shopping center to vehicular traffic.

The council awarded the job of reconstructing the mall to the Griffith Company of Long Beach. The project will enable motorists to use what is now a pedestrian mall and add landscaped sidewalks, benches, canopies and planter walls. It is scheduled to be completed by July 15.
