Aldrich Faces Surgery: Daniel G. Aldrich Jr., chancellor emeritus of UC Irvine and currently acting chancellor of UC Santa Barbara, is to undergo intestinal surgery today for removal of a malignant tumor, a family spokesman said. Aldrich, 68, will undergo surgery at Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, where he was admitted Monday. Aldrich and his wife, Jean, have been living at UC Santa Barbara since last September, when he was appointed temporary head of the university. UCI spokeswoman Linda Granell said Aldrich is expected to remain acting chancellor of UC Santa Barbara until this fall.
