“Primrose” and “Pardon My English”--two Gershwin musicals unearthed in a New Jersey warehouse in 1982--will receive performances today for the first time in more than 50 years. The concert at the Library of Congress in Washington will be the first major performance of any of the recovered material, which include other long-lost George Gershwin works and hundreds of unpublished songs by Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers and Cole Porter. “Pardon My English” was a flop in New York when it opened there in 1933, lasting only 46 performances, while “Primrose” was a hit in England in 1924 but never played in this country.
