Two 18-year-old men and a juvenile were charged Thursday with shooting out 75 to 100 car windows with two pellet guns during an hourlong joy ride through the streets of Oceanside, police said.

Edward D. Layug and Lester J. Abbott, both Oceanside High School students, were arrested at Crouch Street and Canyon Drive at 1:40 a.m. after a police officer became suspicious while witnessing them drive up and down Crouch Street several times, said Bob George, Oceanside police spokesman.

A 14-year-old juvenile also was arrested but was released to the custody of his parents, George said.

“There have been crime reports coming in all day long for this,” George said.

“They left a regular trail through the city.”

George said the three suspects drove about 20 miles from Camp Pendleton to Crouch Street--shooting out windows as they went.

Layug and Abbott were being held at County Jail in Vista on suspicion of felony vandalism and conspiracy.

Charges against the juvenile were still pending, George said.
