Ex-Detective Faces Deportation or Jail
Former Manhattan Beach police Detective Nigel Antony Starkey was ordered to leave the country or serve one year in County Jail for pressuring a jail inmate to have sex with him in exchange for help with her case.
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Clarence A. Stromwall imposed the jail sentence Thursday, then stayed it until June 15, giving Starkey, a former English bobby, until that date to leave the country. Starkey will face a prison sentence if he tries to re-enter the United States in the next three years, the judge said.
Last month, Starkey, 30, pleaded no contest to two felony counts.
