Irvine : Chancellor Emeritus Recovering After Surgery
Daniel G. Aldrich Jr., chancellor emeritus of UC Irvine, was listed in satisfactory condition Saturday at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, two days after undergoing surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his colon.
A hospital spokeswoman also confirmed that the cancer had spread to his liver. However, Aldrich, 68, could be released from the hospital in 10 days, his wife, Jean, said.
The cancerous tumor was diagnosed last Monday when Aldrich, who is serving as interim chancellor of UC Santa Barbara until July, was admitted to the hospital.
His wife said a second operation for the liver cancer has been ruled out and Aldrich will undergo chemotherapy.
