Share

Three former San Francisco police officers have been charged by federal prosecutors with illegally possessing hand grenades. Their arrests came as part of a continuing investigation into stolen military weapons. The indictment accuses Alejandro Serrano, 31, and Alex Alfaro, 31, of conspiring with unidentified people between June, 1986, and mid-March, 1987, to receive and possess plastic explosives and hand grenades. Serrano and Alfaro are each charged with four crimes, including illegally possessing and transferring the grenades and keeping them, knowing that they had been stolen. The third former officer, Richard Montero, is charged with a single count of receiving and possessing two hand grenades on April 13.
