San Francisco’s fine arts museums, responding to an estimated $1-million budget deficit, are hiking their admission charges and will eliminate about a dozen jobs. “We are facing financial difficulties, but that’s not anything new,” said Whitney Hall, chief administrative officer for the M. H. de Young Memorial Museum and the Palace of the Legion of Honor. Officials are also considering other possible cutbacks, including reducing the museums’ hours of operation. The regular admission charges for adults will be raised from $3 to $4, which is comparable for major museums in Los Angeles, San Diego and elsewhere, Hall said.
