Republican mayoral candidate Frank L. Rizzo had to get a court order today before he could vote in the primary election because the former Democrat was not listed in the city’s binder of registered Republicans.

“If I find out who did this, they’ll need an orthopedic surgeon,” the former mayor said in an interview with KYW radio.

Rizzo, who switched to the GOP last December, went to the polls at around 7 a.m. to vote but discovered that his name was not listed, according to his press secretary, Jim Baumbach.

“It was a bit surprising,” Baumbach said. “At best, everybody in Philadelphia knew that Rizzo had changed parties. It’s amazing that those in the elections department did not.”

Rizzo went to a police station, where Common Pleas Court Judge Victor J. DiNubile Jr. signed a court order permitting him to vote.
