A school bus went out of control in Carson, knocking down a power pole and street light and injuring the driver and seven passengers, educationally disabled students bound for a school in Hawthorne. Four of the students were hospitalized, but none of their injuries was believed to be serious. California Highway Patrol spokesman Richard Richards said urine samples were taken from driver Antonio Hernandez, 21, of South Gate, after he told investigators he had been fighting drowsiness just before his vehicle went out of control near the corner of Sepulveda Boulevard and Normandie Avenue. The accident interrupted electric service to about 800 Southern California Edison customers in the Carson area, but a spokesman said most service was restored within an hour.
