Temple City : Las Tunas Zoning Loosened

At the request of merchants on Las Tunas Drive between Kauffman and Oak avenues, the City Council has modified the C-1 zone so that it no longer must be exclusively retail but can include service businesses and professional offices.

The Planning Commission had objected to most of the changes in permitted uses, but the Downtown Revitalization Committee, concerned about vacant storefronts, asked for the modification to generate more foot traffic in the area.

There are 100 small businesses in the zone, which is Temple City’s main street, said Rick Konrad, head of the committee. He said the next step would be to notify commercial real estate agents about the newly permitted businesses and solicit merchants to move to the area.
