A 16-year-old Burroughs High School student was arraigned in Pasadena Juvenile Court Wednesday on charges of murdering a 70-year-old retiree while burglarizing his Burbank home this month.

Burbank police arrested the youth Saturday, two days after a missing person’s call led to the body of Charles Francis Magee Jr., a retired Walt Disney Co. employee, in his home at 1236 N. Lincoln Ave.

Based in part on a confession, the youth was charged Tuesday with one count of murder and seven counts of burglary, Sgt. Robert Giles said.

The youth, whose name has not been released because of his age, is being held without bail. Magee, who worked as a volunteer driver for the Burbank Meals-on-Wheels program, was reported missing last Thursday by a supervisor in the program.

Police found the decomposing body but did not immediately conclude that Magee had been killed, Giles said.

An investigation by the Los Angeles County coroner later determined the cause of death to be a blow to the head. Police said they believe Magee died May 6.
