Harry S. Parker III, former director of the Dallas Museum of Art, has taken over as the new director of the fine arts museums of San Francisco. Parker was welcomed to San Francisco this week by Mayor Dianne Feinstein. “There’s a terrific audience for the arts in San Francisco,” Parker said. “There’s a great deal of eagerness to compete with Los Angeles and to raise the whole level of action. There’s a big challenge there, and I’m drawn to that.” Parker will oversee the California Palace of the Legion of Honor and the M.H. de Young Memorial Museum in Golden Gate Park.
