“What we desperately need here is stability, to restore the integrity of the news operation . . . and so we can be proud of ourselves again.” So says KCBS-TV news director Erik Sorenson, today marking the end of his first week back at his old post at Channel 2 after two months as news director at KTTV Channel 11. KCBS’ news director for two years, Sorenson, 31, was forced out last fall in the wake of a brief, unsuccessful effort to revamp local news shows with a feature-packed news wheel format. New general manager Bob Hyland--the station’s third top executive in a year--says Channel 2 now emphasizes “hard news, thorough coverage of breaking stories and enterprise reporting.”
