ON THE TOWN: U2 did five shows at New Jersey’s Meadowlands last week. And guess what--the band recorded them all, sparking speculation that a live album could be on its way by year’s end. As is customary, Bono pulled kids out of the crowd on several occasions to jam with the band. One night, after a young fan played a bravura harmonica solo, Bono asked him what his name was. As he dove back into the audience, the kid jokingly answered, “Bruce Springsteen!” . . .

Back in L.A., Motley Crue treated a few-hundred pals to a special listening party in honor of the band’s new album, “Girls Girls Girls.” With a title like that, it hardly came as a surprise that the group held the fete at the Body Shop, a popular Sunset Strip strip joint. On hand to ogle the scantily clad dancers were Ted Nugent, Dweezil Zappa, Howard Jones, Sam Kinison, David Coverdale and members of the Cult, the Unforgiven and Ozzy Osbourne’s band. . . .

And the local heavy-metal fraternity were also busy last Sunday night at the Country Club, which hosted an all-star “Party Ninjas” benefit jam-session, with proceeds going to the Find the Children Foundation, a missing-kids organization. Participants included Don Dokken, the Crue’s Vince Neil, Quiet Riot’s Franki Banali, Dio’s Jimmy Bain, Joe Lynn Turner and members of Armored Saint.
