Gov. George Deukmejian late Friday signed into law a bill authorizing the merger of the California Film Office and the California Motion Picture Council into one office, to be known as the California Film Commission. The two offices had nearly identical functions, and the film industry supported the merger. Lisa Rawlins, former California Film Office director, will head the new organization.
