About 100 unemployed elephants, apparently driven by hunger, went on a rampage in a remote village in Bangladesh’s southeastern Chittagong Hill Tracts, smashing huts and trampling rice fields, local officials said Sunday.

The elephants had been hired by a logging business to transport logs through the forest, but the company closed down and the elephants’ owners were unable to feed them after failing to find new work for them.
