Two graduates of Vietnamese universities have filed a $16.6-million lawsuit in San Francisco federal court to challenge California’s refusal to recognize medical degrees issued in that country after 1975. The suit, filed by the Center for Public Interest Law on behalf of Le Bup Thi Dao of Irvine and Tao Trung Nguyen of Los Angeles, also seeks $20 million in damages for other foreign medical graduates seeking California licenses. The action claims that the state uses discriminatory standards.
