A $55-million lawsuit filed by a Long Beach woman who said she had a miscarriage because of “deliberate indifference” by Orange County Jail attendants was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Edward Rafeedie in Los Angeles. Rafeedie said there were technical defects in the suit. He invited lawyers for Michele Rene Holtan, 30, and her boyfriend, John Donald Eich, to resubmit an amended suit within 10 days. The judge said the plaintiffs must contend that the alleged mistreatment is part of “custom and practice” at the jail. Attorney Harry Lerner said the lawsuit will be resubmitted.
