Plaza de la Raza’s board of directors have set July 20 as the date for the annual meeting of the cultural organization’s more than 160 voting members, a Plaza spokesperson said Tuesday. The board’s decision comes in the wake of a controversy that erupted in April when a community group accused the arts and cultural center’s board of violating the organization’s bylaws because they had failed to convene a membership meeting for two consecutive years. Plaza officials denied that they had violated their bylaws, but promised to schedule an annual membership meeting within 60 days.
