Faria Passes Christian to Win the Main Event in Speedway Racing

Mike Faria of Colton became the first double winner of the season Friday night at the weekly speedway motorcycle racing program in front of 8,410 at the Orange County Fair Grounds at Costa Mesa.

Faria passed Alan Christian of Huntington Beach on the third lap of the four-lap scratch main. Bobby Schwartz of Costa Mesa finished second, Christian fell to third and Robert Pfetzing of Santa Ana was fourth.

Faria overtook Jim O’Dell of Huntington Beach and Gary Hicks of Glen Avon in the final turn of the final lap to win the eight-lap handicap main. O’Dell was second, Hicks third and Pfetzing fourth.
