Runaway Winner, ridden by Robert Bard, won the $436,172 Kindergarten quarter horse race for juveniles Saturday night at Los Alamitos.
Runaway Winner, a brown colt, broke alertly and held a half-length lead a furlong from the finish. He held off Special Shake in the closing yards to win by a neck in 17.60 seconds in the 350-yard race. The win was worth $192,200 for Runaway Winner who paid $6.60, $4.60 and $3.20.
Special Shake, who paid $6.20 and $3.80, won $70,840 for finishing a half-length ahead of Favored Kisses To Yawl, who collected $37,950 and paid $2.80.
