Mayor Harold Washington of Chicago endorsed plans to build a football stadium on the city’s West Side, a proposal that would move the Chicago Bears from their lakefront home and develop one of the city’s most blighted areas.
Mike McCaskey, the Bears’ president, said the team is pleased with the choice and “fully intends to pursue the West Side site.”
But he said the team will continue to explore other possibilities in case the site takes too long to develop.
