Arnold Palmer failed to gain a berth in the U.S. Open for the fourth straight year, shooting a 36-hole total of 1-under-par 143 in qualifying at Walt Disney World in Lake Buena Vista. Fla.
Palmer, 57, was trying to qualify for a return trip to the Olympic Club in San Francisco, the course where he squandered a seven-stroke lead on the final nine holes and lost the 1966 U.S. Open in a playoff with Billy Casper.
