The last defendant in the Barona Indian bingo rigging case was fined $5,000 Wednesday but given no jail time for arranging for his girlfriend to commit perjury when she testified about the games to the grand jury.

Louis Cordileone, 49, of Reseda, was placed on three years probation by San Diego Superior Court Judge Elizabeth Zumwalt.

Cordileone pleaded guilty to being an accessory to arranging the perjury committed by his girlfriend, Karen Greenberg.

According to Cordileone’s probation report, Greenberg won $34,000 illegally from a rigged bingo game on Jan. 21, 1985. She denied using any illegal means when she testified before the grand jury on Jan. 8, 1986.

Greenberg was later granted immunity from prosecution and testified March 25, 1986, that Cordileone directed her to lie about the games.

Cordileone, a movie maker, could have received a year in jail. He was given credit for one day spent in jail.

Co-defendant Stewart Siegel, 49, of Las Vegas, is serving a one-year term in County Jail for stealing $97,000 from the rigged games in 1985. Siegel had pleaded guilty to four counts of grand theft.

The third co-defendant, Joseph Richard Catania, 39, was sentenced last year for his role in the scheme.
