Bolar Questioned in Rogers’ Death

A recruiter for sports agents has been questioned by federal authorities concerning the cocaine-induced death of Cleveland Browns’ safety Don Rogers, a New York newspaper reported Thursday.

Newsday said that authorities are investigating a possible link between Rogers’ death last year and Terry Bolar, a former Cal State Long Beach football player, who has worked as a recruiter for several sports agents.

The investigation stems from inquiries by the FBI and a federal grand jury in Chicago into the activities of Norby Walters and Lloyd Bloom, who are New York sports agents.

Rogers, a former UCLA All-American, died of a cocaine overdose June 27, a day before he was to be married. He attended a bachelor party at a Sacramento hotel hours earlier.

Sources told Newsday that Bolar was at the party and supplied the limousine that Rogers and his friends used that night. Bolar, who was recruiting players for a Jackson, Miss. firm at the time, told Newsday that he spent part of the night with Rogers, but did not see Rogers using any drugs.

Bolar said he has been questioned by an FBI agent about Rogers’ death and about his dealings with Walters and Bloom. He said he also has testified before the grand jury in Chicago.
