Michael Andretti gained the provisional pole position for Sunday’s Portland 200. Andretti, driving a Cosworth-powered, Indy-style car, covered the 1.9-mile track in a speed of 114.488 m.p.h. Andretti led last year’s race until he ran out of gas and was edged at the finish line by his father, Mario.
Roberto Guerrero had the second-fasted qualifying speed of 114.217 m.p.h.
