A Los Angeles television news producer who was convicted of beating his wife and falsely imprisoning her was sentenced to nine months in jail and ordered to produce a documentary focusing on domestic violence in the Japanese-American community, the city attorney’s office said. Municipal Judge Carol Boas Goodson ordered Akihiko Goto, 42, to complete the 20-minute documentary by July 7, two days before he is to surrender to begin his jail sentence. The documentary, to be produced with the guidance of Every Woman’s Shelter, an organization that assists Asian-American women, will be aired on Channel 18, the city attorney’s office said. Goto was convicted by a jury of periodically beating his wife over a one-month period last fall and refusing to allow her to move out of their home.
