NCAA Golf : Watts and Oklahoma State Win Men’s Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Brian Watts shot a final-round 66 to match the course record and earn medalist honors, leading Oklahoma State to the team title at the 90th National Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s golf championships Saturday at Ohio State University.
Watts finished at 280, eight under par, to win by six strokes over Nolan Henke of Florida State and Barry Fabyan of Wake Forest. Michael Bradley of Oklahoma State was fourth at even-par 288.
Oklahoma State shot a final-round 288 to finish at 1,160, eight over par for the tournament. The Cowboys won by 16 shots over defending champion Wake Forest.
Wake Forest’s total was 1,176 strokes, followed by Oklahoma, 1,177, and Ohio State, 1,185.
Watts’ 66 matched the competitive course record set by Tim Norris of Fresno State in the 1980 NCAA championships and tied by Ohio State’s Clark Burroughs in 1985.
Watts’ final round included a 50-foot chip for an eagle on the par-5 12th hole and a birdie on 11.
The victory gave Oklahoma State its fifth NCAA golf championship.
